One family made a big decision: they decided to adopt a dog from the shelter. Everything was going well when they took their new doggo home. He loved cuddles and interacting with the family.
It was the “same old” story. Walks in the park, fetch snacks and belly rubs. Except something was wrong. When the family went to bed, their faithful dog refused to sleep. Instead, the dog would sit by the bed, quietly watching.
Concerned, the family took him to the vet. Perfect bill of health. However, when they visited the dog’s old shelter to ask about his background, they received some shocking news!
The poor dog was sedated by his master and fell asleep. The next time the poor doggo woke up, he was in the shelter. So the pooch was terrified of falling asleep and being abandoned.
The family put the dog’s bed right next to their own and comforted him. With time, he started falling asleep, and no, this family had no intention of returning their dog to the shelter.
Sadly, a lot of dogs go through some sad ordeals before they land with the right family. Many of the dogs at your local pet shelter are coming from a sad or traumatic background.
Don’t worry, many of these doggos are good boys (and girls!). Adoption a dog from a pet shelter could literally save a dog’s life! So if you’re looking to make a difference, adopting a dog, cat, or another shelter animal is a great idea.
