Dogs aren’t “just” companion animals. Many dogs serve vital functions, including as service animals. Fact is, our canine friends are highly intelligent and can serve a wide variety of function. And since so many doggos are eager to please, they will perform their duties with love.
Take the story of Bella, an 11-year-old child who suffers from Morquio Syndrome. This syndrome affects mobility, and it is progressive. This means it will get worse as time goes on.
Basically, the body can’t break down sugars called glycosaminoglycans. These sugars are needed for our tendons, cartilage, bones and other things. The severity of the disease varies, but it can have a huge impact on quality of life.
Bella had been forced to use crutches or a wheelchair to get around. That is until George the Great Dane made his way into her life. Georgie helps Bella get around, and when she needs someone to lean on, George is there.
George also won a “Dog’s Best Day” and got to live like a king for a day. He was showered with toys, treats, and all the rest. Yet throughout the whole day George still seemed to care more about Bella than all the extra goods.
What a dog. Someone else might need a bit of a pick-me-up, so go ahead and share this post on Facebook!
