Dogs aren’t just pets. They are frequently put to work. Dogs bravely serve in police forces, search and rescue, and military operations, among others.
Rico the Combat Dog
Our brave military veteran dogs have served on the front line. They face immense danger to fight for their country and serve other vital roles.
Many soldiers become very attached to their dogs. This isn’t “just” a man’s best friend relationship. It’s a bond of brothers (and sisters) serving in arms together. Those dogs that serve bravely and survive their service often go to live with military veteran families.
All dogs pass away at some point. When Rico the canine soldier passed away, his fellow soldier, Sergeant Beckley, made sure he went out with full honors. Beckley and his father, who also served in the armed forces, gave Rico a proper military funeral.
Before passing away Rico got to enjoy his retirement. He was a “good boy” to the first degree and served his country as bravely as any soldier.
Rico’s funeral service drew in friends and family from across their community. Rico may be gone, but we can be sure that he won’t be forgotten.
A true patriot and loyal partner until the very end, Rico will be greatly missed by his fellow soldiers and family.
Let’s help make sure that Rico’s memory lives on! Share this story with your friends on Facebook! (Don’t blame them if they tear up!)
